a couple things we learned last week
A few tidbits...
- Every three months a child is in a neglectful situation = one month of development lost.
- A child who is delayed in nonverbal communication skills will likely have more difficulty acquiring English; close monitoring of language acquisition is recommended.
- In most cases, children will catch up by double their age at adoption. E.g., a child adopted at 12 months should be caught up by age two. These are rough guidelines; if there is a concern, parents should seek a speech evaluation for their child.
