The financial side of adoptions
There are many parts to the adoption, not the least of which is the financial side. Phil and I trust that God will provide for each bill in His Own unique and creative ways. :) We are currently doing the Red Envelope Fundraiser in an effort to raise the funds for the Home Study cost.
Our home study has been fairly expedited.... which is exciting!!!
But it also means that the home study bill is due Saturday, February 23rd. So we are moving the fundraiser end date up to Saturday instead of the 24th which is the end of the Chinese New Year celebration. We've been told that normally home studies take 3-4 months, so it's very interesting that ours is going so rapidly! HMMMM - I WONDER WHAT GOD HAS IN STORE!!!!!
It's never easy to fundraise. We don't want to give people the wrong impression. But we do want to be open and honest about what our needs are. We know that God uses the Body of Christ to do His work. We are excited to bring our little one(s) home (and ya, I'm still holding out hope that it will be this calendar year even though the social worker said she thought it would be unlikely but would come close). We know we can't do this financially on our own. The encouraging fact to us is that the Church is not unaccustomed to 1. the need to help orphans or 2. the need to be a part of ministries by giving financially.
We hope and pray that our church, friends, family, and maybe even strangers will want to get on board with our effort to bring our little one(s) home and see this as a group effort. Normally, when we talk about growing our family, it's been a me and Phil kind of thing if you know what I mean. So, this group effort concept is strange and exciting all at the same time.
Will you consider this week contributing to the home study bill? It is $2500. There will be another bill coming shortly (like in the first couple weeks of March) after our Home Study has been filed with the state from our adoption agency. That bill is $1891.25. So, within about a month, we expect to have to pay just under $5000 towards adoption expenses.
Thank you for reading about our adoption journey and for taking the time to think and pray about helping us financially. It's very exciting to be part of something like this, but there are moments where I start to worry - not because God is untrustworthy or as ever failed us... but because I start to think about how impossible of a task this is for us in our humanness. I think it's just God's way of reminding me that we will not and cannot do this in our humanness. And just like every other child we have been given by God, this one will be no different - a gift... Please be in prayer for us - that we would stay strong and of a good courage, not being afraid or discouraged. For the Lord our God is with us - where ever we go! (Joshua 1:9 - my life verse)
Oh and I found this cool graphic organizer about the orphan ministry that Phil and I are becoming involved in. I truly don't believe that this ministry stops with the adoption for us. I think God is really opening our eyes to a need......
