So, I'll turn the blog over to him...
Can you guess what this is? If you said, "A frog that was alive 15 minutes before it ended up in that bowl" you are correct.
20 frogs in a pot
Amazing how clean you can keep a room when there aren't small children living with you.
More frogs!
A western meal at the hotel.
Mobile phone service in China
Not a lot of sunshine, but ample fog rolling over the river.
Watching Survivor China in China
At tourist shopping center
No - that's not a fake backdrop. It's actually new construction. Still hadn't finished eating the sugar coated strawberries...
Some traditional decor outside the shopping center
Pirates!
The first place I recognized.
Traditional bamboo carrier with baskets of fruit.
BEFORE it got crowded
Historic City Monument to commemorate the establishment of the People's Republic of China. Used to be the tallest structure in the city - not so much anymore.
One nice tv.
Question: Road or Sidewalk? Answer: Yes.
Guan Tang Bao. Best food I had. Dumplings with a hot soup inside.
Cable car ride over the Yangtze river
Porcupine Sanctuary. Not really. But it was a cool looking building.
Cars get the right of way. So you best not be in the road when the timer hits zero.
Normal traffic
Parking lot
See that yellow car? It's not an intersection. Just wanted to get over a lane. Oh - and see the people? Brave folks. Also smart folks - they got out of the way before we ran into them. Lots of horn honking - but that isn't unique to crooked cars and daring pedestrians.
Apple is everywhere.
Traffic finally cleared up a little... I actually got out of the car just after this picture and walked in the street like the person in the picture. Almost had an Audi take the car door off. So I got out the other side. We got our name in for dinner reservations while the driver looked for parking.
Common night activity - mass dancing. Sort of like line dancing. Except there were like 8 different stages with all sorts of music that had nothing to do with each other. Oddly enough, most of the dancers were older adults. I was told that this is common exercise for the elderly.
Downtown area is known for lights on the skyscrapers. The picture doesn't do justice - most of the lights change colors and appear to move up and down and all around the buildings.
Unfortunately, I didn't get to try McD's.
Now THAT'S how you decorate a tree!
Shopping Center. This was the least crowded moment where I could actually reach my camera out of my pocket.
Buddhist Temple.
First of three sets of stairs.
Building where the Buddha statue is and where people would enter as part of their ritual. I asked what picture's were allowed - they said everything was ok except for the Buddha.
Incense that people burn.
The ribbon strands can be purchased. People leave them tied to trees to atone for their short comings - so that the ribbons remain in the temple rather than the person.
Candles that people would burn.
Where the incense was lit.
So right at this spot two chinese college age folks ran up to me, put there arms around me, and had one of their friends start taking pictures. I figure that is the closest to celebrity status as I will ever come. So I embraced them back and smiled for the camera.
Back to shopping after the temple visit.
Red Panda at the zoo.
Ever seen a panda in a tree?
Handsome gentleman. Oh, and a panda in a tree.
More handsome gentleman.
Snack time! Bamboo anyone?
Ever wonder what a panda's dinning room table looks like? Now you know.
Why do I hear 20's gangster voices in my head whenever I see this picture?
There's that handsome gentleman again.
There were other animals in the zoo too. I felt bad not being particularly interested, so consider these pity pictures.
So I guess lion parents aren't too different from us. Mom is just trying to enjoy some peace and quiet why the three kids play in the dirt.
The handsome gentleman! And some well manicured bushes.
Panda wanted to shake hands with Mr. Handsome.
This little boy thought I was fascinating.
Ran to the supermarket to gets some caffeine to help with a late night working. Mountain Dew Bottles look way cooler there. Coconut milk was delicious. Everything cost a total of about $1.50
An advertisement for Kohler.
We ate at the restaurant in the background. Rabbit was delicious. And you didn't have to pick one out of a cage first, like most of the other rabbit places.
Did not shop there.
Or at any of these places.
One of the few buildings in the city less than 30 stories tall.
Yet another amazing tv screen.
Some businesses one-uped the lights on other skyscrapers with a laser show.
Snails.
Step 1: Put on plastic glove.
Step 2: Pick up super long toothpick.
Step 3: Stab snail meat
Step 4: Rip off snail body
Step 5: Eat the head
The big things in the middle were like giant pot pies. You can see some fish meatballs floating in a soup. The Pig blood hadn't been served yet...
So I finally found the courage to go to a store by myself. So I walked to Starbucks by myself and ordered this "Cafe Mocha." To my surprise, immediately after ordering, I was asked, "Grande or Venti?"
My co-workers!
Blinds please.
So how do I plug this in?
