Sammy's Adoption: Day 4 - We go pick up Sammy!

In the adoption world, today was considered Sammy's Gotcha Day.  Phil and I don't love the term, but so far haven't come up with a better name for this really momentous day.  It wasn't a birthday, but it could have been.  :)

We were still in the habit of getting up early (as in 4am) so I am pretty sure we ate breakfast at about 6am.  We took our sweet time knowing that we had until 3:30pm before we could leave to get Sammy.

We watched the American League Championship series!  :)

Phil got the Ergo out of the suitcase and got is all fitted and put on so he knew how to wear it.

We took our sweet time getting ready.  This was the way we kept my flat iron plugged into the outlet - the ice box under the converter box under the kleenex box under the converter.

Finally it was 3:30pm and we met our guide in the lobby.

Driving to the Civil Affairs Office in Xi'an - the Provincial capital of Shaanxi.

We walked up the steps to the government building and I saw a couple of ladies - one was holding Sammy's monkey!!!  The other one was passing in front of our guide but I peaked around her and saw Sammy!!!  RIGHT THERE!!!  IN THE ATRIUM OF THE BUILDING!!!!!!!  Totally not what we expected!  We thought we'd go to the Adoption Registry Office and sit down and wait for him to be brought in and handed to us.  Nope.  He was right there!

We took the elevator up with him - it took quite a while to go up 30 floors.

Our guide told us to bring a snack.  We brought cheerios.

Sammy had no problem coming to me.  He never cried.  God created him to be ours.

He even hugged me!!!!

He didn't cry when I gave him to Phil either.

Ever since we got him, he has been happy to have us and not reached out for anyone else to take him away.

The nannies brought a very special present - it was a scrapbook they made for us of Sammy's time at the orphanage.  It is priceless.  Totally precious!

Leaving with our son!

We stopped at Walmart for a shopping trip.

We got some adorable pieces of clothing - now that we saw how BIG he was!  (We were both so surprised when we held him the first time - he's not a little peanut.  Only a few pounds lighter than Titus.)

Picked up diapers.

and a bowl...

Sammy is very smart - he figured out we were putting things in the cart and after a few things decided he could do that job.

Picking up formula
water, a bottle (that we didn't use since the avent one I brought was perfect for him), a paci (which he only used that first night), coke, coconut milk (which is AMAZING)...

Instead of an elevator or escalator, there was a moving ramp going to the second floor.  Phil had the cart (and the camera) and we were going up up up.  It was a little funny to watch the workers stocking the bins along the ramp because they had to run to stay in one place.  :)

The rice bins

We also got 3 bananas, canned congee, and Sammy desperately wanted an apple, so we let him pick one out and carry it the rest of the shopping trip.

We also got a package of diapers in each size for the orphanage (we were going to be visiting the orphanage on Thursday - Day 7).

Finally going "home" to our hotel room.

Sammy was warm so I took off his sweatshirt.

Our guide helped us finish the adoption paperwork for the evening and get it signed.

Sammy enjoyed exploring.

He was so tired after the long day!  (He had taken an overnight train from his orphanage to the capital the night before, too.)

He fell asleep at 8pm.

We ordered room service (spaghetti and a ham sandwich) and then went to bed - we were exhausted, too!
