Almost a year (part 1)

It's been ALMOST a year since we left for China to get our son.

I remember the taste of the first sip of ginger ale on the flight to Beijing after I threw up in the airsick bag.  LOL - what a strange memory.

I'm SO glad I brought my scarf on that trip.  The air on the plane was so dry that my nose and throat burned.  So the scarf brought a great deal of relief.

Getting to Beijing was such a fun experience.  It was nice to land so late at night because an otherwise overwhelming airport was virtually empty.

Phil was an amazing man - I just had such admiration and love and respect for the way he handled everything.  I remember that we didn't know where to meet the bus to take us to the hotel.  He didn't want to be shnookered by the taxi driver so he called the hotel and asked them where we should find the shuttle.  They explained its location to him and sure enough, there were all the shuttles.

He kept our paperwork and adoption documents and everything so well organized.  All I had to worry about was having a good time and becoming a mom again.  I loved that!

When we got to the hotel, we walked in and there was a huge golden statue of a teapot pouring into a cup.  It was so beautiful.  The attendant at the desk said that they had taken the liberty of upgrading our room to a suite.  I could tell Phil felt in his element speaking with the hotel reception because of his job experience.  He was very confident and respectful, but the main thing about him was the radiant peace and joy from him being in China.  He liked it there.  And he was having a fun adventure with me to get our child.  It was fun to feel young again - like we were on our honeymoon... the last time we'd left the country together 10 1/2 years earlier.
